Part of an Inktober project, the prompts dictate the process. The prompt was "Build", so after mixing pearlescent and acrylic ink, I began to draw organic patterns into the sediments of Mica left by the ink. A combination of chemistry and biology to see what drawing would emerge with fine liner pen.

Drawing: Mixed: ink, alcohol, pencil and pen

h: 33 w: 33 d: 2 (cms).

From the Inktober prompt-a-day series, the word to work with was "Ash". I use the chemical reaction of pearlescent ink and acrylic ink to create the initial ink blot and, once dry, I began to draw the cellular composition of the cross-section of an ash tree into the shape. If you choose to Google an ash tree branch under the microscope, you'll see what I mean. I do find biology beautiful.

Mindless

Drawing: Mixed: ink, pencil and pen

This work is from my Inktober series. The prompt given that day was the title of this work - "Mindless". In order to follow this idea, I numbered patterns sections of the colour wheel as 1,2 and 3 and I asked my husband to pick the numbers from a hat! This way, the colours and mark-making process were not chosen by me. He picked 1 and 3 which meant branching patterns on a blue background. More of a generative approach than usual.

Part of the Inktober project of a prompt a day for each piece. The prompt for this work was "Overgrown". Here, the ink was applied, turned upside down and, once dry, the application of dendritic patterns with fine liner pen began until a forest-like drawing appeared.
